In this episode of the Leadership Speaks series, I speak with Suneet Verma, World renowned Fashion and style guru. Suneet Verma is among the rare creative geniuses who confidently took on the added challenge of building a hugely successful business in the fashion industry.

In his early career, Mr.Verma quit a highly desired job with fashion brand YSL in Paris to return to India and start his own entrepreneurial firm. This might seem to be an incredibly risky career move for a 21 year old, but as we will see in this interview, Suneet Verma firmly believes that without taking risks, one will remain mediocre and can never make a mark in life..

Mr.Verma's life gives us a peek into the glamourous world of high fashion, and also the business side of the fashion industry. From my chat with Suneet Verma, here are the two points struck me the most -

This interview was about consistency - from making early life choices, seeking the best education, to managing complex and diverse businesses. There was much for me to learn and get inspired by. Here are my two main learnings from his amazing leadership journey -

1st: Success comes to those who find a balance between what makes commercial sense and what satisfies the soul

It is a rare privilege to make a successful career doing something you love. Working to make your dreams true will make hard work seem easy. However, making a commercially viable business out of our passion is no easy task. It may require taking big risks, and to stay disciplined and focused till we can see results.

2nd: Hang out with people who inspire each other in the group to succeed.

As young people we often feel peer pressure at school and college. From an early age, it's very important to find a group of people who share the same drive and passion to succeed as you. Negativity and bad influences can pull us down - but hanging out with a positive peer group can keep us motivated and focused, and prevent us from going down a losing path.
