INTRODUCTION
In this episode of the Leadership Speaks series, I speak with Dr. Navin Dang, Founder & Chairman of Dr. Dangs Lab. Dr. Dang‘s Lab is known to be one of the best Quality-Based Diagnostic Labs in the country. Having begun his journey with a small financial investment and a 400 sq. ft. area, he developed the facility to a nationwide medical service that has played a life-saving role during the Covid pandemic.
Despite his amazing success as an entrepreneur, Dr. Dang firmly believes that medical services must not be seen as a "business". He considers himself a doctor first, with his loyalty always for the patients and not just for making profit. Let's hear Dr. Dang's leadership story in the 9th episode of Leadership speaks.

KEY LEARNINGS
Here are two things I learnt from my chat with Dr. Dang:
This interview was about consistency - from making early life choices, seeking the best education, to managing complex and diverse businesses. There was much for me to learn and get inspired by. Here are my two main learnings from his amazing leadership journey -
1st: We must stop calling the medical profession a "business"
If you are planning to build a career in a medical related field, always remember that a doctor's loyalty must lie with the patient. Making profit cannot be our main goal or motivation.
2nd: Every doctor should know how to say "I don't know.
This quote from George Bernard Shaw is Dr. Dang's advice. I think this is very good advice, not just for doctors, but for all aspiring leaders of tomorrow. We must be humble enough to ask others for help when we ourselves may not know. A true leader knows their own limits and is always ready to turn to other experts or get a second opinion to solve problems effectively.
In the pharmacology and diagnostics world, new discoveries, methods and practices are constantly being published. The only way for someone in a medical related business to stay up to date is by constantly seeking and reading new medical journals and other publications.
Talking to experts and people in India and abroad, attending webinars, working for medical journals, and doing one's our own research is the formula for both business success as well as patient well-being.
"Education is the only way. There is no other way to update our knowledge"
